blog travels | boundary line

Girls Night Out-color blocking edition

every week i get to contribute to a fun lifestyle blog collective called boundary line. sometimes we do "style it three ways" posts. we are all so different it's fun to see one item styled by three people with completely different vibes. this week we selected the stuart weitzman mint heels. i styled it for date night, click here to see it styled two other fabulous ways.

web site travels | office prop styling

really appreciate the prop styling that went into this  coveteur image of aliza licht's office. especially the complimentary essie reds and the ibm shout out. (watch out apple, the others are rising. sort of. ok, fine. they aren't. yet. but they will be. maybe?)  speaking of offices, the onyx feather one was photographed yesterday—very fun. can’t wait until the article comes out and i can share it.

label love | bernardo aguayo

label to watch: bernardo aguayo. fully in tune with the playful modernity of his dresses. aren't they fun? color blocking can be so visually jarring sometimes but he excels at executing it. i'd wear his pieces to all the finest events. and i'd pair the garbardine and suede dress (bottom left) with the onyx feather zalika piece from the cairo line.

label love | a. toy

enthralled with the buttery-ness of this lambskin charlie tote by a. toy. even more captivated by the fact it can be worn two ways (tote style or long shoulder.) love versatility.

video + blog travels | ballet

light blog posting due to huge deadlines + the upcoming winter shoot.  love these images; they are wonderful inspiration for some things coming up on the onyx feather horizon. here is a link to the runaway video by k. west featuring  victoria secret model selita ebanks playing the role of a phoenix-bird-person-goddess-thingy. her makeup and wardrobe are exceptional and make every woman want to be a phoenix-bird-person-goddess-thingy. check out this  fly blog post to see images of her. the white eye shadow, mascara, and phillip lim feathers make my heart pirouette.

label love | lauren moffat & tracy reese

the lace detailing at the bottom of this dress? yes! thank god for designers who still care about the little things.

great dresses + styling for holiday parties.

not a fan of the styling in these two shots--too busy. but the pieces are lovely. and even busy styling can't conceal that.

how to | wear winter shorts

coming clean: had a million conversations with people about how dumb winter shorts were. and then one day i saw the image above and a light bulb clicked and changed everything. you can wear winter shorts in the fall—you just have to do it correctly.
starter tips…    the material of your shorts needs to be wintery. herringbone, wool, that sort of thing.  the quickest way to look like you have seasonal-fashion-identity-crisis is to run around town in some summer-time khaki shorts with tights. ::shudder::
speaking of tights. there needs to be a pair of complementary textured tights thrown in the mix (lace, patterned, woolly, the sky is the limit). bare legs in shorts in the fall? been there. it’s not hot. (you just look really cold and everyone around you deliberates on the odds of you getting frost bite.)
booties. for a novice winter shorts look better with ankle boots, or booties—they show more leg. the more comfortable you are with wearing winter shorts, the more liberty you’ll feel to pair them with different shoe combinations.
finally, what to wear them with? try a leather jacket, a blazer, or a chunky knit sweater.

campaign love | j. crew

have you seen the latest j. crew fall campaign images yet? no? well don't look. don't look at the olive trench coats, the breath-taking emerald lace skirts, the versatile plaid shirts, the streamlined champagne silk skirts, the mint sequined blouses, or the chartreuse socks. don't look!

loving | rue magazine

when domino magazine folded, a little part of my accessible-design heart did as well. however, after looking through the new online shelter magazine “rue” all my ventricles are beginning  to pump again. loving the black and gold DIY room created with the wallpaper brand mentioned here. reminds me of the onyx feather cairo colors.  and the modern cobalt telephone in the “man in the blue blazer” spread? brilliant. the search is on for one.

mix n' match | fall dresses

another exceptional dress from the sunday brunch dress shop. top 3 admirable things about the aztec dress: the voluminous neckline, the strong print, and the lack of sleeves. the lack of sleeves makes it seasonally versatile—and a bit more bohemian. in the winter you can layer with something long-sleeved underneath or over it. i paired it with cognac over-knee boots (from aldo) below to give it that welcome-to-fall vibe.

Wednesday

label love | monique lhuillier

the prediction of red—traditionally an accent color best applied in small doses—as an “it” color for fall/winter seemed terrifying. until this:

looks stunning with a metallic accent dosen't it?

mix n' match | fall weddings

early fall weddings. simply treacherous to style right? you can't wear coral and look like summer, but the leaves haven't turned yet so you can't wear tights and look like halloween. here are three early-fall wedding options--with shoes added-- just throw on a cardigan or blazer.

classic (with a twist).  A textured gold lame and brocade dress (mod cloth, $107) , with a patterned nude clutch (alexander mcqueen knuckle duster box clutch.) and blue elephant  heels by omelle.

modern. the vibrant color spectrum and soft draping of this dress (anthropologie) contrast with the architectural heels of these jeffery campbell pumps (on sale for $99). The result: a polished artsy look.

edgy. the volumunious sleeves of this dress (mod cloth) paired with via manzoni booties (anthropologie) make this an instant winner. go full throttle by skipping the cardigan and opting for a leather jacket instead.

Wednesday

great expectations | website launch

the website is live.  finally. sort of feel like a mother in a delivery room bed and instead of looking at my child i’m staring intently at a new-born flash-web site. the e-boutique launches september 8. in the meantime, peruse the collections.

(can sloooooooooooooowly feel my muchness coming back)

blog travels | wearable home decor?

have got the oddest addiction to any magazine feature that translates the décor of a room into an outfit. (domino magazine excelled at this.) there’s something fascinating about the ability to make someone basically wear their living room and look great doing it. it’s the ultimate style challenge. the caramel jacket to the scalloped caramel chair?  impressive.

tastes like | sublime clothing

mouthwatering sushi. if one could translate this sushi  box image into wearable clothing it might look a little something like this:
brilliant.

Thursday

blog travels | that shirt!

 funky chic? yes.

rule breaker | mixing jewelry

loving the mishmash of jewelry pictured here. it's outdated to think jewelry has to perfectly coordinate. the days of wearing  gold earrings only with a gold necklace are over. if you want to wear your silver ring with your brass one: do it. the key is doing it artfully.

Monday

blog travels | print maxi dresses

first thought when someone says the words maxi dress: cute and comfortable. i never think: sexy. until i saw this mara hoffman dress...
and here comes the back.......
i think i would just walk backwards everywhere?
